Review of Hope Springs (2012) by Bruno P — 04 Dec 2012
HOPE SPRINGS is a premise in search of a movie. Having snagged Streep and Jones, the screenwriter and director seem to sit back and say 'fill in the gaps'. But for all their brilliance there's no 'hope' here.
The pace is deadly and the lack of insightful dialogue leaves the two principal characters types and nothing more. I'm not the target audience for this movie, I hear you say? Granted. But if 50+ couples in need of marriage counseling ARE, they aren't going to be much inspired by seeing Streep on her knees giving Jones a blowie in a movie theatre.
