Review of Hope Springs (2012) by Everett J — 22 Dec 2012
"Hope Springs" is the story of an elderly married couple played by Maryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones. They are stuck in routines, sleep in separate beds, and don't have a sex life at all. One day Kay(Streep) gets fed up with it and decides she wants her marriage back and sets up a vacation to see a couple's specialist played by Steve Carrell.
Arnold(Jones) is stubborn, cheap, and resists change. But he goes along with it. Streep is up for best actress in a comedy at the Golden Globes, but this really is more of a drama than a comedy, as parts are just down right sad.
Its a very honest look at marriage, as I'm sure there are thousands of couples who go through this. Carell does a great job as their therapist, and plays it very straight. This is a decent movie that all married couples should watch, especially the older crowd.
