Review of Hope Springs (2003) by Nilufer R — 24 Feb 2010
Hope Springs is the story about escaping your life, about letting yourself be happy again...happier.
Colin Firth does a fairly good job as the British artist Colin Ware, as he progressively falls for the enthusiastic but beautiful Mandy (Heather Graham), although trouble keeps rushing in when his ex fiancée Vera (Minnie Driver) arrives.
This was an okay romantic comedy , even though it never really made me laugh. It had depth and a storyline that spoke to me, although the movie in itself never really started to speak to me at all.
It felt like it never actually began. The beginning of this movie didn't grab my sleeves and pull my heart out, forcing me to stay seated because of the heart-clenching movie.
I stayed seated because I had to know the end, not because I loved the movie, but because of the anxious feeling I have when not knowing. Not knowing the ending, despite the fact that it wasn't good in the first place. Although, you never know, they might turn out to be worthwhile in the end, and guess what? This one did.
