Review of Hope Floats (1998) by Sarah S — 02 Nov 2008
This movie was a sleeper, and I ended up seeing it only after (a) tons of friends told me how good it was and (b) I worked for a time in the small Texas town in which it was filmed. Very sweet story with complex characters and a nice theme.
And as someone who has worn glasses since I was five, I really loved that a movie for once had a little girl with glasses! The story is not a typical Bullock movie, though--it is gut wrenching in parts and can be hard to watch.
But it has a lot of realism and lessons in it, and the soundtrack is also first-rate....and aptly features many Texas artists. :).
