Review of Hop (2011) by Andrew B — 08 Apr 2012
Original: Want to see it.
I was rather surprised by the fact that it's combining live-action and animation like "Alvin and the Chipmunks", but it still might be ok.
Why'd they have to put Chelsea Handler in it though????
New 3/31/11:
I'm really not sure about this one anymore, based on the horrible reviews it's getting. It's really too bad, this sounded like a fun idea...
After seeing it...
Well, that could've been better.
All right, granted, I missed about 10-15 minutes somewhere in the middle, but from what I saw, I think I can assume that non-Dr. Nefario Russell Brand is not my thing. The majority of the film kind of left me cold.
One part I DID like was the scene in which E.B. starts practicing with the Blind Boys of Alabama, which really made me stop and say "Hey, that's cool." Also the training exercise sequence was somewhat fun, and the finale was okay. Also, the visuals looked nice.
It may grow on me, but sadly I think the egg-shaped Universal logo and the short Minions sequence that opened the film may have been the best parts. I think "The Smurfs" was more enjoyable to me; how's that for a surprise?
2/5 stars.
P.S.: As for Chelsea Handler's part in the film, I didn't even realize who her character was until the end, so obviously she didn't have any major effect, though there wasn't much for her to spoil...
