Review of Hoot (2006) by Nate R — 05 Apr 2010
Hoot is an innocent enough environmental childrens film that is filled with beautiful scenery and animals. What was disapointing though was that in it's short running time (87 mins) it doesn't emphasise it's environmental undertones enough to really get the message across which is also due to a weak plot and slow pace.
Children and parents however should enjoy it's positive messages (The little guy defeating the evil corporate giants, the importance of friends, treating animals with respect etc). Another drawback for this film was Luke Wilson as the comic relief which takes away some of this films charm, the rest of the cast are decent enough (Including Logan Lerman from Percy Jackson).
We need more environmentally conscious films, and Hoot isn't a bad effort, It could have been longer and taken it's message further but it's still a charming little film filled with lush scenery that parents can let their little kids watch knowing they might gain something from it.
