Review of Hoop Dreams (1994) by Cam B — 16 May 2006
The greatest of one of my favourite genres: the sporting documentary. Follows the story of two high schoolers in the States playing basketball in the hope of one day making it to college and then the pros.
Stunning display of American culture and sport's place within it -- saw it at the flicks, then at uni, and then on video a few times at home. As luck would have it, the documentary makers had an opportunity to display success, failure, injury, race, religion, money, and so much more.
Incredible.
