I nearly forgot about this gem until we were recently recommended it by pipeman.

Documentaries seldom learn to appeal to emotions without crossing the fallacy line, making the arguments presented weak and overly invaluable. Hoopdreams was well known for avoiding this as we focus on the very real and self-proclaiming frames of the inner-city black kids, playing at a game that professional NBA teams have never even touched.

This type of narrative style to documentaries was something Michael Moore has attempted to replicate and failed horribly. Steve James tells a story here without a script and without manipulative editing, which may appear to be present but the amount of time cut from the reel speaks wonders.

These two kids needed a future, and watching them try and progress towards it is quite saddening and heart warming. This is a true Ghetto Gospel.

One of the best documentaries ever filmed.
