Review of Hoop Dreams (1994) by Andrew B — 07 Feb 2010
It's difficult to overestimate the awesomeness of this movie. The 3 hour running time is barely noticable. This is a movie that people love because it's the story of their life. What's interesting to note is how hoop dreams seems both artless as well as heavily choreographed.
There are so many classic scenes here: Arthur returns to St. Joe's, William's basketball banquet, Arthur's mother's graduation from nursing school, the epic Arthur-Bo basketball game, etc.
It's also fun to listen to Agee and Gates's commentary.
