Review of Hoodwinked! (2005) by Jerome K — 11 Nov 2011
Why didn't the critics like this movie? I thought it was pretty funny. Although film itself was a little short (only 81 minutes) and the second half got a little predictable, the first half was unique and entertaining.
As with many animated films today, there was some parody, but I thought it had a good amount and didn't get out of control. I'm also partial to stories that tell a tale from multiple perspectives.
I really liked the art direction, even though it's nowhere near as detailed as a Pixar film, I thought it fit the lighthearted mood of the film. Voice acting was okay for the most part. Some voices like Anne Hathaways's fell a little flat, but I always seem to enjoy anything voiced by Patrick Warburton (Family Guy, Venture Bros.
). As far as the overall package, it reminded me of a Shrek film; though I wouldn't say it's quite as great as one.
