Review of Hoodlum (1997) by Richard C — 04 Aug 2009
I saw this movie way back when it first came out and recently revisited it due to a gangster kick I've been on lately. The story of Bumpy Johnson is interesting, as most rise to power stories are..
. but sadly it isn't put together too well. Some non-matching edits and made-for-tv look to it (despite the violence and language) stands in the way of it being a really effective movie. Laurence Fishburne is amazing as Bumpy and Tim Roth I love, though his Schultz seemed to.
.. I don't know... not my favorite role for him. Some other "I know you" faces pop up here and there too. All in all, it's worth a watch if you're interested in the genre.
