Honeymoon looked cool when I saw the preview for the first time on another horror flick I was watching. Independent horror is honestly where a lot of the coolest shit in horror cinema is taking place nowadays because they're willing to take chances and tell stories that are kind of off beat or otherwise weird.

There's some real gems out there. Honeymoon is kind of one of those titles, but not really. It stars Rose Leslie and Harry Treadaway and it tries to do that body horror stuff that Cronenberg is so famous for.

It relies on the viewer not wanting to know more about the creatures and what's going on, just as much as its characters do which is cool in a way, but it's not very effective here because it all comes off as sort of half assed or been there, seen that.

Ever since Paranormal Activity came on the scene, once a film starts showing us rooms of a house at night when everything is silent...instantly we start looking for something to happen. Then the music kicks in and something small happens.

It builds little by little and then, the horror begins. Honeymoon is a fun flick, but it takes two intelligent people--and then when one of them starts going crazy (Rose Leslie) both stop being intelligent which sucks because I was looking forward to seeing a smart flick.

It is what it is, doesn't break new ground, and its a solid flick if you're not used to this sort of thing but when there's much better body horror flicks to choose from and are a little bit more satisfying, Honeymoon just falls a bit stale.
