Review of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) by Timothy S — 29 Jul 2009
Grammar Police! The title should be either a) Honey, I Shrank the Kids or b) Honey, I've Shrunk the Kids. "Shrank" is the simple past tense of "shrink". "Shrunk" is a past participle.
Now that my grammar rant is done, I can start my review. This had the potential misfortune of being released on the same day as Tim Burton's original Batman in 1989. With the Disney promotional machine behind it, though, it became pretty popular. It provided a vanilla alternative to Batman for younger crowds that liked adventure but maybe weren't ready for Batman or Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I have to say that for the time it came out, it delivered fairly well.
Overall, it's a cute adventure with major scaling problems, but a big heart.
I hope somebody got fined or fired for the title, though. Aside from the bad grammar, he didn't even shrink his kids. His machine did. Am I the only one paying attention here?
As a side note, I REALLY liked the Roger Rabbit / Baby Herman short before the film. Must find out if it's available anywhere...
