Review of Homefront (2013) by Kathryn M — 06 Jan 2015
Ok. I didn't expect to like this movie at all. At all. Especially after I saw the beginning credits and saw how much Stallone (SCREENPLAY??) had to do with it. BUT. I enjoy watching Statham fight and was in the mood to see an action flick.
And the action sequences were good. Pretty brutal, but the quality and style of the choreography and actual fighting skill was good. Franco's drug lord character was... interesting. For most of the movie, he is the orchestrator of attempting to take down Statham's character, but does very little actual interaction with him. Leader from a distance? Anyway.
I have to admit to loving the daughter character. She's a tough cookie, obviously heavily influenced by her dad, not only in physical self-defense, but smarts and awareness of surroundings when in danger. I also enjoyed most of the scenes where Statham's character is interacting with her. There were noticeable changes in his behavior as he factored in the presence of his daughter. I thought it was a nice element.
Again, I didn't expect to really like the movie. I liked it more than I thought, mostly due to some really stellar fighting and the father/daughter relationship. I could have done without the language and random, short sex-on-car scene, though.
