Review of Homefront (2013) by Zane G — 19 Jan 2014
Homefront is somewhat of a solid action movie, but at the same time that's all it really is but it's different kind of movie in way.
Phil Broker is a former DEA agent who has gone through a crisis after his action against a biker gang went horribly wrong and it cost the life of his boss' son. He is recently widowed and is left with a 9-years-old daughter,Maddy. He decides to quit the turbulent and demanding life of thrill for Maddy's sake and retires to a small town. His daughter fights off a boy who was bullying her at school and this sets in motion a round of events that end in his direct confrontation with the local Meth drug lord. His past history with the biker gang also enters the arena, making matters more complex. But he has a mission in his mind to protect his daughter and he is ready to pay any cost that it demands.
I'm all for an action with Jason Statham because that's all he is really known for because his movies are always entertaining aside from the sloppy acting. And this movie does offer some slam banging action. When people got hit people got hit hard and it felt real and it was fun to watch. I will never complain about Jason Statham in movies because he will entertain me in any action movie he's in. The best thing I could say about this movie is that it's a different take for a movie that features Jason Statham. Meaning actually has some heart and more emotion. There's a lot of action in this movie but when the action wasn't happening we got more sense of character development. That's the thing I found the most intriguing from the most movie. Aside from that the dialogue and acting was not bad but it's not good as well. Statham was fine again I will never complain about him. James Franco a was in the movie and I feel like he could have been played by most anybody. Not a lot of known actors in this movie but they were fine for the most part. I liked the directing in the movie, but there was probably one scene where it had the shaky cam and I was like "Ok stop it." But other then it seemed to flow good with the progression of the movie.
Homefront is something you don't need to rush out to the theaters to see. It's something that you could watch on cable at best.
