Review of Homefront (2013) by Brennan H — 01 Apr 2014
Homefront is a film that runs on high powered feuds, fiery confrontations and bitter revenge, all orchestrated by a host of broken, dark and complex characters brought to life by tremendous performances by a highly capable cast.
The script is filled with threatening lines and motives, people chip away at each other and there's a lot of taunting, you can see them at breaking point, Gary Fleder's direction keeps the intensity high at these points.
The only questionable part is the inconsistent editing, for the most part it's fine but when the action takes place it's hard to follow, mostly the opening where the drug house is attacked, dialogue and bullets fly in all directions, whereas after this scene the editing smoothes out.
But without question the cast are just phenomenal, Statham is tough but caring as a single father, Franco goes dark as a drug lord who teases his enemies, Bosworth and Ryder undeniably steal the scenes as rather run down, unstable women, the look these two excellent actresses have achieved is impressive adding depth to their gritty performances.
Fans of Jason Statham movies will be pleased as will other viewers thanks to the knockout violence, heated conflicts and an all round solid story with a big scale finale that goes from brutal home invasion to a speedy car chase, and by the time the credits roll you'll be gripped.
