Review of Home Sweet Hell (2015) by Eq R — 08 Apr 2015
Katherine Heigl takes a stab (pun intended) at dark comedy and oddly enough, it suits her a bit more than her other comedy roles as the quirky romantic lead. While this film is heavily influenced by much better dark comedies, namely "Very Bad Things" it succeeds in developing functioning characters and a solid story to drive the genre film along.
Wilson does an admirable job as the spineless husband that gets strung along by the psychopath Heigl. Most of the film was fairly enjoyable, the ending had too many endings so to speak, you are happy once a certain person gets theirs and then when you think it ends, there's another predictable and unnecessary ending.
While the acting was good, in the end Heigl can't touch "Very Bad"'s Cameron Diaz and the story just didn't pack that dark punch that it needed to succeed. D+.
