Review of Home Room (2002) by Casey B — 27 May 2004

It's not so much about a school shooting, yet about how it affects the lives of two young women. The story is really about these two characters, how they cope and how they hide a part of themselves to the public.
At first glance, these two students seem like a stereotypical rich, spoiled girl and an unpopular, "goth" type (but not goth). They appear to have nothing in common. But once you get below the surface of their exteriors, the audience realizes that they aren't that different after all and they are hiding serious problems.
They learn to open up to each other and become more open-minded.
The shooting is the backstory and it is actually never really shown. The cops are trying to find a reason for the incident. Though in these situations, there is no simple answer.
The reason could be very complex resulting from many events and factors. Or there could be no reason at all. One of the reasons I really liked this movie is because it didn't give an easy answer or explanation to why school shootings happen.

Recommendation: Rent for a good story.
Grade: B+
.
