Review of Home of the Brave (2006) by Arman M — 22 Jun 2009
I canâ??t decide whether or not I actually liked this film, on the one hand it was a moving narrative that showed how the Iraq war can effect so many different people. On the other side it lacked the punch that other war films have delivered on such as Black Hawk Down and Platoon, but then it would be unfair to compare against such standout films.
There are four separate stories told which to me got lost between each other, it would have been better to break them down to two. The acting was generally good with Samuel Jackson at his best but for me it was Jessica Biel that gave the most emotional display. 50 cent made a unique appearance but he is a long way off from being an established actor. The battle scenes at the beginning lacked power and could have been better choreographed.
That said we must never forget that there are a lot of soldiers out there that have gone through very similar experiences and however much you dress it up in Hollywood tinsel the fact remains that itâ??s all very much a reality.
