Review of Home Alone 4 (2002) by Mark S — 05 Nov 2010
The first two movies were childhood favorites of mine. They basically played on every kid's fantasies of being left alone to do anything they wanted. Kevin got to screw around the house/New York, spend lots of money, watch violent movies, talk back to adults, and beat the bad guys. What little kid wouldn't want to be Kevin? Home Alone 3 was trash. It was obviously just an attempt to cash in on the franchise, and resembled the original two in nothing but name. Replacing badass Kevin was a completely new, annoying kiddie brainiac. Instead of being truly left home alone for an extended period of time, the kid was just staying home sick with the chicken pox.
1:None of the original actors are in it and what happened to Harry? 2:Kevin was about 12 in number 2 he is now 10! 3:He had about 4-5 siblings he now has three! 4:Buzz was a scary teenager in the other installments hes now a wimp and hes younger. 5:The actor who plays Kevin in this installment Mike Weinberg has brown hair,Kevin had blond hair. 6:Why would Marv come back and try and rob Kevin again when he has already been caught twice?
They're portrayed by completely different actors. There's Peter, Kate, Buzz, Megan and Kevin. Funny, in the original, didn't they have five kids? Anyway, Peter and Kate are separated. Split. Divorced. Kevin is disappointed that the family will be apart on Christmas. Peter drops by and asks if the kids would like to come and spend Christmas with him at his new fianceé, Natalie's mansion. The kids declined but when Kevin becomes fed up with Buzz's bullying and Kate's non-caring, he heads for the mansion which is very hi-tech! The doors open automatically and the fire place lights automatically all on voice control. Natalie and Peter are happy to have Kevin. Servants include Prescott the butler and Molly the maid. Things were going great, but somebody from Kevin's past was surfacing. Marv Merchants from Home Alone I and II is back! He's teamed up with a new partner, his wife Vera who's about as intelligent as he is. Marv and Vera sit outside the house planning, not to rob it, but to kidnap the prince of a royal family coming to stay at the house for Christmas.
Next day while Peter and Natalie go out, leaving Kevin alone in the house with Prescott and Molly, Marv and Vera infiltrate the mansion very easily, because Marv hired an inside man who gave him a remote to it. Kevin discovers them and, with the help of the multiple shower units, flushes them out of the house. Peter and Natalie return to see the house flooded. Kevin tells them of the break-in but they don't believe him. Prescott even claimed to have seen nothing which made Kevin suspicious that maybe he was the inside man. Well, Peter decides they should all trim the Christmas tree, and they do. Kate comes over to bring Kevin some things and it's obvious that she and Peter still love one another deep down inside; Marv and Vera plan out how to kidnap the prince and would make their move Christmas morning so that night, Kevin rigged the house with booby traps. Next morning, he lured Prescott to the basement and locked him in, then found out that Prescott was not the inside man. Molly was. She locks Kevin in the basement as well. Molly was in fact Marv's mother! Kevin escapes curtosy of the dumb waiter; Marv and Vera get quite a work out and soon the police arrives and take them back to jail. Molly too. Peter decides he'd rather be with Kate and the kids than Natalie. So it was a merry Christmas after all.
