Review of Home Alone (1990) by Libero S — 17 Dec 2014
As it's the Holiday season I thought I'd review the Christmas classic Home Alone. Home Alone is a fun family flick which provides a lot of laughs mainly through slapstick violence. Pesci and Stern are hilarious as the two hapless cat burglars Harry and Marv, they provide most of the films comedy as they are subject to Kevin's (Macaulay Culkin) traps which he sets around his house.
Although the film's premise may sound long-winded and silly, the film carries it off surprisingly well, which makes it a unique comedy. I found myself laughing the most when Pesci is onscreen which further proves his versatile acting skills, being able to pull off playing psychotic mobsters one minute and then and funny family comedies the next.
In my opinion this is the strongest entry of the Home Alone series closely followed by the second movie as it still has Culkin as the main character, with Pesci and Stern reprising their roles as Harry and Marv, the less said about the rest of the series the better.
Overall Home Alone is a laugh out-loud comedy with great performances by Culkin,Pesci and Stern with a well written script by John Hughes and a much welcomed cameo from John Candy. Enjoyable Movie 5/5.
