Review of Home Again (2017) by Georger P — 29 Sep 2017
Perfectly innocuous, lightweight romcom that is just about saved by the always likeable Reese Witherspoon. She plays recently separated mother of 2 movie-precocious girls Alice, who meets three young guys while out celebrating her 40th birthday.
Hooking up with the blandest one, Harry, the trio inexplicably end up living in her guest house. Add in sleazy ex Michael Sheen and Candice Bergen and it's a fun enough ride but doesn't bear too much close examination.
Witherspoon is charming but the romance is half hearted and unconvincing with the dull Harry. Still, it's nice to see an older woman/ younger guy romance, although I'd argue Catherine Zeta Jones and Justin Bartha did it better in The Rebound (2009).
Director Halle Meyers-Shyler is the daughter of rom-com writers Nancy Meyers and Charles Shyler so she has the pedigree.
