Review of Holy Rollers (2010) by J L — 19 Oct 2010
I felt like I seen this movie before, or maybe the story, but I liked it. I was afraid that my prejudices against the Hasidic community would not allow me to embrace their story, but this wasn't your typical Jewish story.
I'm really impressed with Jesse Eisenberg. What a gifted actor. He proves that he can play a character outside of comedy or college nerd. I was surprised to see that the story was based on truth! The story also proves that there is Hasidic phonyness, as in any religion.
There is a great joke in the movie, told by Justin Bartha, a Hasidic character..."Damn, I ain't never heard Jewish people complain about making money!".
