Review of Holy Motors (2012) by Ben L — 01 Jul 2014
A bizarre look into identity and the nature of performance, Carax continues to explore the nature of surface characteristic of the Cinema de Look. Characters are defined by their superficial appearance because that's all they're given.
Therefore they are both nothing and the possibility of everything, constantly changing, not bound by a single stereotype or identity. Holy Motors asks a great deal, but answers nothing. It is a twisted, strange and wonderful trip into thr mind of a mad man.
