Review of Holmes & Watson (2018) by G G — 28 Dec 2018
I quite enjoyed the film, and so took some thought to understand why the reviews have been so negative. Sure it's not a movie you're going to watch over and over again, but it got a few laughs, and both being British myself, as well as having seen previous Sherlock films, I was able to pick up on most of the references that may have been missed by the average viewer. I think the biggest downfall for this film is that the jokes do not hit a wide audience. The humour is particularly British, using British Slang and phrases. They also took some political agendas both British and American and made jokes of rather touchy subjects.
In short, if you do not know much about Sherlock, England or Will Ferrell's type of humour, this movie is not for you.
