Review of Hollywoodland (2006) by Greg G — 23 Mar 2008
Just doesn't work. The Simo/Reeves parallel is forced, and the resolution for Simo is anticlimactic to say the least. You're clearly supposed to care (it is Brody who gets top billing after all), but the case for why simply isn't made well enough.
I don't have a problem with the film's final take on what happened to Reeves, whom I knew nothing about before tonight, but the ending wasn't a clever way to wrap-up the tale - it was obnoxious.
Devote a few moments to Reeves's Wikipedia entry instead, which is quite a bit more interesting (whatever that means here).
