Review of Hollywoodland (2006) by Jacob G — 14 May 2010
Enjoyable but flawed. Flawed but enjoyable. Seems like one of those movies that will make more sense on a second watching. Unfortunately, you can only understand so much--there is no solution to the murder, either in the movie or in real life.
To be honest, that sucks. But what sucks even more is the awkward way the film is laid out. There are two stories at play here, that of Superman actor George Reeves and that of the detective investigating Reeves death.
The film, however, doesn't make clear that it is jumping back and forth in time. I didn't realize it until the one hour mark that all of these scenes with George Reeves are flashbacks. The characters are enjoyable, though, particularly that of Toni.
