Review of Hollywood Shuffle (1987) by Private U — 19 Feb 2008
An incredibly funny and creative movie made by Robert Townsend who maxed out his credit cards to get this movie made. He also went to studios to get free film which gives this movie character from a cinematography perspective.
This movie is a series of spoofs about a black man's attempt to get decent roles in Hollywood, yeah brutha. Between Winky Dinky Dogg (hey, hoes gotsta eat too!, Winky Dinky Hoe Cake, lol), Tiny's character (they gonna let you lock up the place), this man has responsibility), how does 500 bullets in your ass make you feel, Dirty Larry? comedic skits, this movie will make you laugh non-stop and at the same time make you realize that it was, and probably still is, tough for black people to get decent roles in Hollyweird. Instead of a thug or pimp or whatever, Bobby Taylor just wants to play normal roles. This is his humorous story of how he found out that there's always work at the post office.
