Review of Hollywood Homicide (2003) by Graeme C — 05 Jun 2008
Pretty typical movie of this kind. Firts there were rappers, and I was like, "oh shit". Then they were shot, and I was like "cool". Few less of those homies. Yet I was afraid that the movie would be filled with more rap, but it wasn't.
The music was more of a Motown kind. The characters in the movie are typical. There's a boss who shouts, there's a rookie partner, there's the IA after the main character's ass and what-not.
Of course you cannot forget the high speed chases and the shoout-outs. Fast and furious. Though I've seen faster ones. But it's faster than the car pool lane. What prompts this movie two starts instead of one or none, is the humor which has been included in proper proportions, proper amounts, in out of the ordenary manner.
And the timing for the humor is good. The makers of this film have even managed to get Eric Idle to appear quickly as soliting for prostitutes, and he gets to deliver a line too. The ending is usual, and I didn't expect anything more so that wasn't disappointing.
The bad guys get caught or die (like the villain from Grey's Anatomy), the IA gets out of the character's ass, and the character, who has a double job as a real estate agent, gets to sell the house he's stuck with (in the middle of a pursuit).
So, if you miss this movie, you don't miss much. It's 116 minutes of your life after all. But if you watch it, there are worse ways to spend those 116 minutes, I'll give the film that. Even though they make Harrison Ford run at his age.
