Review of Hollow Man (2000) by David C — 10 Jul 2012
Great special effects but the title refers not only to how the central character appears when he dons his latex skin, but to the hollow plot and indeed morality of the premise. Bacon's character Sebastian Caine is so obviously devoid of morals or any redeeming features before the experiment, that nothing that follows is a surprise, and while it claims to explore the corrupting effect of power, and the temptation to act as a peeping tom, or worse, the titillating approach to film making engaged in by Verhoeven here and in other films, speaks more about Verhoeven himself and makes the audience complicit to the whole sordid affair.
Didn't see it on first release and wish I had heeded the warnings.
