Review of Holiday Inn (1942) by Jonathan H — 20 Jan 2009
The best part of this film was its tone. Seeing Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire as remorselessly manipulative stage performers was a novel idea that I never would have connected with the Christmas musical genre (outside of satire).
Besides that, I really despised it. The lyrics were horrible, the characters were stereotypical, the jokes fell flat, and the acting was insufferable. Even the camerawork felt wrong to me. A groaner, overall.
