Review of Holiday (1938) by Joe B — 02 May 2008
If ever a movies meaning was as important 70 years after as it was when it was made, its this lovely, sincere yet saddening movie. The wonderful Cary Grant, and the powerhouse Katharine Hepburn aren't a couple you would expect to hit it off... but only a few minutes after their characters meet you realise that two stars of this calibre can make it work, and make it work wonderfully.
With a final lasting message that holds true today, in a world where emotions don't seem to exist anymore, and everything is done in the pursuit of money. Its refreshing, and touching. Two things that romantic films today could do well to learn.
