Review of Holes (2003) by Baurushan J — 01 May 2013
The story is about Stanley Yelnats IV played by a young Shia LaBeouf who believes that his family is cursed with bad luck. After being framed for a crime he didn't commit, he is sent to Camp Green Lake as a punishment, a desert camp where every day and night, the boys' punishment is to dig holes.
The camp is owned by The Warden played by Sigourney Weaver, Mr.Sir who is The Warden's right-hand man played by Jon Voight and the counselor Pendanski played by Tim Blake Nelson. He finds out that all boys are nicknamed after their personalities and they don't use their real names at all after being introduced to a gang of misfits including Zero, Squid, X-Ray, Armpit, Zigzag, Barf Bag, Magnet and soon another newcomer named Twitch.
With hopes to find something in the holes they dig every day, Stanley suspects there's something they haven't been told which might be connected to the Yelnats family curse. This movie is a family/kids drama that is enjoyable from start to finish.
Based on the book of the same name I once read in high school, Holes gets a 9.5/10.
