Review of Holes (2003) by Austin T — 22 May 2010
This is probably one of the best book-to-movie conversions I have ever had the privilege to witness. Of course the book is wonderful, and based on Hollywood's track record, I only expected to see half of that story mashed together in this film.
It is my delight to report that Andrew Davis did an excellent job putting all of the elements of the beloved book into the film, so the two are almost synonymous. With all that, the only reason I didn't go five stars here, is that I really didn't like Shia LaBeouf.
He wasn't close to the Stanley portrayed originally (even described as a bit overweight), but Shia just never drew me in, which is the magic the lead must have.
