Review of Holes (2003) by Jack N — 14 Sep 2010
I read the book and at the time, it was one of few books that I actually enjoyed. As a child, I didn't read many books but when this book swept my Elementary School, everybody was reading it. Going into it, I had a vague idea about what to expect but by the end, I loved it!
The characters were well written and the plot was complex and for a childrens book, it was really advanced.
I saw the film and my reaction was the same as it was to the book. Disney stayed true to the formula of what Louis Sachar was trying to create in his book.
Some minor differences lay the book and movie apart but overall, by the end of the movie, you can safely say that you really did watch "Holes" the film version of the book.
The atmosphere it the same and its almost like the book actually just walked on screen with its setting and cast. Perfect casting, and Louis Sachar made the screenplay perfectly to fit with his masterpiece. Tremendous acting, especially from Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Sigourney Weaver, Tim Blake Nelson and Klheo Thomas.
Fantastic film! End of story!
