Review of Holes (2003) by Movie K — 21 Jul 2011

Is quite a good movie, better than expected. But is draggy and should have cut short. A pair of shoe drop from the sky. Shia LaBeouf take it and cops chase after him. Send to youth camp. The grandpa says it is family curse they have no good luck.

Jon Voight runs the camp. Tim Blake Nelson is the counsellor. The youth must dig holes everyday for character building. But if found anything have to report. A boy there name zero (Khleo Thomas) don't talk and surprisingly only talk to Shia.

The curse is the great grandpa likes a girl and get a witch help. The girl seem to have trouble choosing a fat man and him and he angrily left, forget to fulfill the promise to the witch hence the curse.

Khleo don't know how to read and Shia teach him. Shia found a bullet with initial 'KB' but the leader xray demand it. Next day he reported it and the camp boss Sigourney Weaver inspect it.

He got a day off and all the snacks and goodies. Order the kids to dig trenches around the area. When days of digging turn fruitless, it is back to digging individual holes again. When Jon is filling their canteen, the boys stole his bag of sunflower seed.

He return back and the bag is thrown around, landed onto Shia pit. He admit to the crime and bring to see Sigourney. She apply a self made nail polish made of rattlesnake poison and scratch Jon face. Shia see the lengendary wanted poster of a female outlaw Kissing Kate Barlow.

Story goes she is a school teacher and like a black guy, rejected a local baddie. The black guy killed and school burnt. She become outlaw. Khleo dig for Shia. During a fight, Tim want Shia to fight and Khleo help him.

Everything is exposed and Sigourney want the learning stop and hole digging as usual. Khleo hit Tim with the shovel and run away. They didn't chase because he has nobody at all, no records. Going to let him die.

Next day Shia drive Jon water truck away and crash, he also run away. They gonna report him missing after 2 weeks. Shia found Khleo, manage to survive. They climb up the mountain and found water and onions.

He tell Shia the shoe is stoeln by him and he throw it down. The attorney go to find Shia but Sigourney says he run away. The duo decide to go back and dig the hole where the bullet is found and got a treasure chest.

The adults saw them. Poisonous lizard swarm around them but didn't bite them. The authority come for Shia. The chest have Shia family name. He is free to go but want to get Khleo. Sigourney can't give them his file.

A sheriff recognise Jon as a wanted man and bust their camp. Shia got the treasure and give half to Khleo. He found his mum and together they become rich from the treasure found.
