Review of Holding the Man (2015) by Jerome K — 21 May 2016
I think I've seen too many gay interest films. While I found the film to be compelling and competently acted, I found the story to be cliched. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing. Many gay men go through the same experiences, so seeing something relatable like this can be cathartic, and the book the movie is based on was a biography.
I was just hoping for something unique that set it apart from all the other gay films about first loves, dealing with homophobic parents, and/or struggling with the HIV/AIDS crisis of the 1980s.
