Review of Hoffa (1992) by Ethan R — 03 Jun 2009
A fair amount of background knowledge is required in order to enjoy this movie. That problem is compounded by the fact that it isn't very accurate and the choppy flashbacks make the Hoffa's progression near incomprehensible at times.
It also seems that a good biopic should deal with the figure in all parts of their life, and this film focuses solely on Hoffa's adult life as a Teamster leader. While that is what he's known for, I would have liked to see more of the journey and the man in his private life.
All that said, Nicholson is brilliant as always, and there are definitely some big scenes that deserve to be watched.
