Review of Hocus Pocus (1993) by Mloy X — 06 Nov 2011
I could feel my I.Q. plummet and now, I am dumber for having watched this film. It's really my fault for being too lazy and distracted to change the channel and for putting stock in the movie solely on Bette Midler's talent as an actor and Thora Birch as a credible thespian....but alas, I was wrong. I should have trusted my gutt and chalked this one up as one of the mass-produced garbage Disney churns out every so often. The only merit this film has was the cool rendition of "I Put A Spell On You" performed by the band (and a little later by Midler herself) during the grown-up's party and the Edgar Allan Poe poem that witch Sarah Sanderson (SJP) sings to lure the children:
"Come little children, I'll take thee away / Into a land of enchantment / Come little children, the times come to play / Here in my garden of magic.".
