I guess it's fitting that an artist's story would be told mostly in art, pictures, and video. It helps prop up an otherwise uninspired documentary. Listening to his friends talk about David Hockney there isn't much that is inspiring about him.
Nearly the entire two hours is quite surface. His art is wonderful, and by all accounts he appears to be a nice man, but I didn't need to sit through this and neither do you. For Hockney fans only and even they may not learn anything about the subject.
