John Mills and Charles Laughton are both wonderful in this move about a widowed bootmaker with 3 daughters he cares not to marry off in order to keep their dowry's (to support his shop and his drinking habit) and the young apprentice who marrys his oldest dauther and starts his own shop, slowly taking business away from his father-n-law.

As his health (due to drinking) weakens once all his daughters are married off the eldest dauther must find a way to support her husband and his business but assist her begruntled father the best she can.

A lot of fun and most enjoyable old classic.
