Review of Hobo with a Shotgun (2011) by Ola G — 06 Jan 2012
A hobo (Rutger Hauer) arrives in a lawless place called Hope Town, but also known as "Scum Town" via freight train. Scum Town is ruled with an iron fist by The Drake (Brian Downey) and his sadistic sons Ivan (Nick Bateman) and Slick (Gregory Smith). Eventually the hobo takes action with a shotgun to clean up Scum Town from all criminals, weirdos, robbers, rapists and freaks...
I reckon as someone else mentions, that this is less Grindhouse and more fluorescent over the top Troma action we get in "A Hobo With A Shotgun". Just too much of everything and not a worthy role for one of my old favourite actors Rutger Hauer. Saying that this is better than "Machete" has no idea what they are talking about. "Machete" had everything in place and was a treat to watch and a true homage to Grindhouse moviemaking, compare to this mess. "A Hobo With A Shotgun" is a disappointment.
