Review of Hobo with a Shotgun (2011) by Samuel T — 10 Jul 2012
I rate this no on the fact it was a terrible intelligent film, but because it is such a genre-inspired, Troma-style balls to the wall psycho freak fest that I can't help but marvel at its genius. The visuals are vivid, comic book inspired fair.
The director knows how to use his filters like a master. Hauer gives a career best. Characters are done in these incredible broad strokes that make the larger than life and twice as ugly. If John Carpenter, Lloyd Kauffman, Quentin Tarantino, and a mountain of LSD laced cocaine were dumped into a 5 gallon barrel of rum, let age for a couple months, and then given to a couple children, those kids would have made Hobo.
