It's a parody just like its original fake trailer form. Definitely not for everybody and at times I cringed at how bad parts were but that's the point, I suppose.

As much as I enjoyed the original grindhouse trailer, not to mention Rutger Hauer's performance, everything else in the movie just seems too over-the-top. There can be a thing as being too excessive. I like good ol' manic, violent, and bat-shit crazy grindhouse movies. This past year I enjoyed the hell outta Drive Angry, the supernatural revenge flick starring Nicolas Cage, and a few years back there was that awesome Crank: High Voltage, which had a Godzilla-inspired fight sequence! There are some fun sequences in here but there are so few. I mean, in contrast with the great performance Rutger Hauer put on, it's a shame that everything else remained so cartoony. I guess that's kind of the problem Machete now suffers from; they just try too hard. It's too aware, it's too much of a parody and it gets kinda old pretty fast. The villains are, dare I say, really obnoxious. In fact, this whole world is batshit crazy. It might've looked fun when filming but geez, show a little restraint. I know that's kinda stupid to complain about given the nature of the film but... I dunno. The final result is just tiring.

Everything we love about the original trailer is still here aside from being polished by a bigger budget. The original hobo David Brunt makes a cameo here. I kinda expected a bit more... I guess in a way I got what I wanted, but was it really what I wanted?
