Review of Hobo with a Shotgun (2007) by Jacob A — 27 Jan 2012
Everything's so raw, gritty, and uninhibited, yet then again the entire thing's about satire. It goes above and beyond its goals to pay homage to classic exploitation flicks, using extreme situations and an incredibly bizarre alternate reality.
For some the gore may seem unbearable, yet for others it may just look cheesy and cheap (as is intended). The story is simple yet shocking, and Brian Downey's portrayal of the head villain is perfectly evil and insane.
All this being said, Hobo With a Shotgun isn't for the feint of heart or the easily offended. It can be entertaining for the open-minded and those who realize the motives behind the picture, yet most will find the portrayed lack of respect for human life and pure sadism shocking and disgusting.
One thing's for sure: it definitely captures the "cheaply made" essence it strives to.
