Review of Hitchcock (2012) by Roxanne R — 09 Apr 2013
Brilliant and as Richard Roeper remarked "filmed with lots of style and a macabre sense of humor the master himself would have enjoyed". For me the best and most satisfying segment of the film was when Alfred Hitchcock finally acknowledges his wife and business partner Alma after so many years of taking her for granted.
She was an astute and brilliant editor and director as well. Both made a formidable team and this film also teaches the viewer about following your hunch and never giving up on what your instinct tells you.
Hitchcock's instinct was to turn the book Psycho into a motion picture and despite Paramount's threats against the film and possible denial of the seal from the Motion Picture Production Code due to violence and immorality, Mr.
Hitchcock persevered! Anthony Hopkins played Alfred Hitchcock brilliantly- kudos to the makeup and costume crew. Helen Mirren as Alma Reville Hitchcock was also fantastic and Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh did a marvelous job.
So did Jessica Biel as Vera Miles. Interesting how both actresses stated in the film that although they are actresses, they are mothers and wives first. They put their family first. Hitchcock had to finance the film personally and use his tv crew to produce the film so talk about pressure! Moreover adding Bernard Hermann's famous harsh strings score for the shower scene of Psycho, made it a bracingly effective moment of cinematic horror- it was Alma's and the composer's idea! Bravo to the cast and crew of Hitchcock because the film is a major hit and highly recommended!!!
