Review of Hitchcock (2012) by Brad D — 12 Apr 2013
Hitchcock is a biography drama film that provides a good performance from Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren in a fun movie with nothing else to offer. Alfred Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) plans to adapt a novel called Psycho.
With difficulties in funding the movie, Alfred decides to fund it himself. Alfred wifes Alma (Helen Mirren) starts getting a little distant as Alfred pays most attention to his leading lady Janet Leigh ( Scarlett Johansson) and feeling neglected.
Hitchcock is a fun film that focuses on Alfred Hitchcocks desire to make Psycho and how that effected his marriage. Anthony Hopkins pulls off a great performance being Hitchcock while wearing the fat suit and having that dark sense of humor.
Helen Mirren was great as Alma, while the chemistry between Hopkins and Mirren were fantastic. Sacha Gervasi did okay for his directing debut with this biography movie by having some dark humor from Hitchcock while he was also fascinated with Ed Geins who was a serial killer.
Although, the movie did feel short on everything else such as the develpment between Hitchcock and Alma making it a little hard to invest in there characters. In the end, the film was a fun okay movie with a love story of Hitchcock and Alma working together on Psycho as they settle their issue.
Overall, Hitchcock was feeling short on everything else with not much to offer.
