Review of Hitchcock (2012) by Leon B — 17 Aug 2013
Review:
This is a very well put together movie with brilliant acting from Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren which makes the movie a great watch. The chemistry between the husband and wife was portrayed well and it was obvious that Alfred Hitchcock's genius was due to her. I enjoyed the wit throughout the movie, as well as the seriousness of making Psycho which was made against all odds. All of the actors make this is triumph to watch and it gives a insight into Hitchcock's life who really believed in his work, no matter what anyone would say to him. The movie just covers the period of making Psycho so it isn't a biopic about Hitchcock's legacy, but it does show how it was on set with the film maker and how in tense and to the point his direction was. I think you can tell that I did enjoy the film.
Round-Up:
It's great to see Anthony Hopkins back to his best and Helen Mirren also contributed just as much. It's a shame that the movie didn't make more money, like other movies that are based on hype, but I suppose that is because it hasn't got loads of CGI or action. The film does make you wonder how Alfred Hitchcock really was, and I was hoping to see some real footage of the man himself, but due to his privacy and the way that he led his life, there can't be that much information out there. The shocking thing about the film is how much he relies on his wife and how much she contributed to his work. Judging by how hard he must have been to live with, she really did make him who he was, even though his eye did wonder every now and again.
Budget: N/A.
Worldwide Gross: $24million.
I recommend this movie to people who like there biopics and are intrigued on how Hitchcock lived his life around the period of Psycho. 8/10.
