Other than as a showcase for Hopkins and Mirren, I struggle to see why this movie exists. Why waste time making a sub-par Hitchcock biopic when his own movies already explore his psyche with infinitely more insight? The sad fact is that this film is just about a powerful couple learning that they need each other - a story which could have been told using anybody.
If you want to watch a movie about Hitchcock, watch Vertigo.
