Review of Hit & Run (2012) by Ray H — 06 Sep 2012
Hit & Run was mispreviewed. But it was still a great movie. To get butts in the seats, they made Hit & Run seem like an action packed adventure. It has some action, but is really a rom-com.
A man in the witness protection program lives in a small town and is dating his perfect match. She gets a job offer in Los Angeles, where he's from, and he's willing to go back to be with her, despite the apparent danger. They don't have much time to get her to the interview, and there's a criminal element who has it out for Charlie Bronson (Dax Shepard) and an ex-boyfriend of Annie's (Kristen Bell) to deal with.
Shepard and Bell are a real life couple and their comfort with one another shows. There have been couples who act onscreen together and aren't good at all. As a matter of fact, a lot of them don't usually end very well. Shepard and Bell are good. Everyone else from Bradley Cooper to Tom Arnold seem to be having a good time making Hit & Run. They deliver their lines well. They're all funny.
It was the small lack of cash that kept Hit & Run from being so great (it only cost $2 million to make). They used a couple of cars from Shepard's personal collection to shoot the film, and I'm sure not everyone worked for their regular salary. I think that as good as this turned out, Shepard, who wrote and co-directed it, will get more opportunities to to make movies. He's an extremely talented guy.
This is a smart and funny movie that you should rent or watch on a movie channel. You aren't missing anything by waiting. You can't get mega-effects on $2 million.
